15 May 2012: Personalised Medicine and the Communication of Genetic Risk |
Venue: London, UK
The Society for Genomics Policy and Population Health annual conference and AGM focuses on the inter-related areas of Personalised Medicine and the Communication of Genetic Risk. The morning sessions will focus on personalised medicine, what it means and what is possible, followed by talks on the clinical implications and impact and the psychosocial and ethical considerations. In the afternoon, the sessions will focus on a key public health consideration that arises from personalised medicine, the communication of risk information particularly around inherited genes, where there are likely to be wider implications for consanguineous family members |

31 May 2012: Epigenetics - the secret key to health |
Venue: Cambridge Discoveries in the field of epigenetics – the study of heritable changes which do not involve alterations to the DNA sequence itself - offer an important contribution to our understanding of human health. This free seminar combines an overview of epigenetics with examples of its application in treating and preventing disease. Speakers are: Dr Nessa Carey, Senior Director, Pfizer and author of “The epigenetics revolution - how modern biology is rewriting our understanding of genetics, disease and inheritance” and Prof. Anne Ferguson-Smith, Professor of Developmental Genetics, University of Cambridge. This is part of a special series of seminars from the PHG Foundation who are celebrating 15 years of making science work for health. |
