Organisation
History
PHG Foundation grew out of the Public Health Genetics Unit, which was established with public funding in 1997 and pioneered the concepts of ‘public health genomics’ in the UK. Today we have an international reputation as leaders in the field, with connections in the health, research and policy communities in the UK, Europe, North America, the Far East and Australasia. In May 2007 we launched the Foundation as an independent not-for-profit research and development organisation, dedicated to making biomedical science work for health in populations around the world.
How we fund our work
The Foundation is a UK registered charity (no. 1118664). Our work is funded in three ways:
- Donations
Our core funding comes from individual donors, trusts and foundations. Our current business plan is on a secure footing with confirmed income of at least £1million a year until 2012. We are actively fundraising now for new sources of funding to continue our work beyond 2012. Support Us - Endowment
The Foundation received an initial expendable endowment of £1million. This resource is carefully managed to ensure that we are able to meet our longer term commitments. Our fundraising strategy contains ambitious targets to build our endowment. - Income from research and charitable activities
Over the last ten years we have generated almost £7million in grants and commissions from public and private sources for policy, education and service development projects. In our first year as a charity (2007/08), our income from grants was £170K, and we plan to increase this year-on-year. Collaborations
