Dr Gurdeep Sagoo - Epidemiologist

Gurdeep Sagoo has been associated with the Foundation since 2004, working on projects for the Human Genome Epidemiology Network (HuGENet) and Cambridge Genetics Knowledge Park. Following a spell in a Foundation-funded post at the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge, he became a PHG Foundation staff member in April 2009. He contributes epidemiological support to our work programmes, undertaking empirical and methodological research for Foundation and collaborative projects.

He has a BSc (Hons) in Human Genetics from the University of Leeds, and an MSc in Genetic Epidemiology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Sheffield. Alongside his PhD studies at Sheffield’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2004, he also taught on the statistics module of the MSc course in Genetic Epidemiology. He is member of the International Genetic Epidemiology Society (IGES) and the Institute of Biology (IOB).

Currently Gurdeep conducts systematic reviews and meta-analyses of the epidemiological literature investigating genotype-phenotype associations and the combined effects of genetic and environmental factors in diseases such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes and lung cancer. He is also interested in investigating the evidence base and the utility of genomic risk prediction models for common complex diseases.
