Dr Gurdeep Sagoo - Epidemiologist
Gurdeep Sagoo has been associated with the Foundation since 2004, working on projects for the Human Genome Epidemiology Network (HuGENet) and Cambridge Genetics Knowledge Park. Following a spell in a Foundation-funded post at the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge, he became a PHG Foundation staff member in April 2009. He provides epidemiological support to our work programmes, undertaking empirical and methodological research for Foundation and collaborative projects and is involved in the Foundation's teaching programme and news service.
He has a BSc (Hons) in Human Genetics, an MSc in Genetic Epidemiology, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and a PhD from the University of Sheffield’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. At present he is studying part-time for an MSc in Health Economics at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. He is member of the Society of Biology (SOB).
Gurdeep is generally interested in the sound use of evidence-based practice. He is currently using his expertise in systematic reviews to investigate the evidence-base of the global burden of disease due to birth defects as part of the Foundation's Born Healthy Programme. Gurdeep is also interested in using his newly developed skills in economic evaluation in the areas of public health economics especially as applied to the field of genomics.
