Dr Luis Nacul – Consultant in Public Health Medicine
As a consultant in Public Health Medicine, Luis Nacul identifies important yet unaddressed issues in national and international public health services for Foundation projects. He leads work that brings together multidisciplinary teams from a wide range of academic organisations, interest groups and health providers. He also participates in our teaching programme towards the Masters in Public Health at the University of Cambridge.
Luis studied medicine and did his medical residency at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He holds a number of degrees in public and community health and epidemiology, and was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Prior to joining the Foundation in 2009, Luis worked as a clinical lecturer and held a number of posts with the UK Health Protection Agency and Harrow Primary Care Trust. He has wide experience in epidemiology, teaching and health protection; and is a member of the Faculty of Public Health and fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Luis is currently leading a project on the development of a tool kit for assessing health needs in relation to congenital disorders in low and middle income countries. Other areas of interest include epidemiology, primary care, stratified medicine, and the epidemiology and management of disabling chronic diseases, including chronic fatigue syndrome.
