Dr Sowmiya Moorthie – Project Coordinator
Sowmiya Moorthie is involved in a wide range of the Foundation’s activities. She contributes science and policy input to internal research reports, scoping documents and briefing papers. She writes articles on a regular basis for the Foundation’s news page and contributes to external publications and outreach materials.
Sowmiya graduated from the University of Sussex with a BSc in Biochemistry with Neurobiology and went on to obtain a PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Before joining PHG Foundation she worked in Kyoto and completed an internship at the UN University Institute of Advanced Studies in Yokohama as part of the Biodiplomacy Initiative.
She was recently involved in our project on expanded newborn screening and cell free fetal nucleic acids for prenatal diagnosis, and she is currently working on the Foundation’s major international project that hopes to develop a tool kit for the conduct of health needs assessment for birth defects in middle and low income countries. Sowmiya will also be contributing to the Foundation's project on whole genome sequencing.
