Dr Tom Dent - Programme Associate (Public Health)

Tom Dent is a freelance consultant providing expertise in public health and epidemiology.

After graduating from Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London, Tom trained in general medicine, and then in public health medicine with the Anglia and Oxford Regional Health Authority, where he gained experience at the local level as well as in the Department of Health. He has worked in a number of roles for the National Coordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment at the University of Southampton, for health authorities and primary care trusts as well as for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Tom’s recent work with the PHG Foundation has included risk estimation in coronary heart disease and the appraisal of predictive risk scoring systems more generally. He is now working on methods of establishing which risk scoring systems are suitable for general use and on the EU-funded Collaborative Oncological Gene-environment Study.
