Hong Kong Masters
Hong Kong University commissioned the PHG Foundation to develop a 3-day module on Public Health Genetics as part of their Master’s degree course in Public Health. The module, which combined input from UK and Hong Kong lecturers, was delivered by a team from the Foundation to students from Hong Kong University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and others, in November 2007. The reusable module can also be tailored for delivery in different countries and settings.
Contribution to formal education processes
- Provision of support to Cranfield University in the development of a Master's course in Public Health Genomics.
- Continuation of teaching on Cambridge Masters Courses (Public Health and Epidemiology) and the clinical medical course.
- Provision of training placements in Public Health for Specialist Registrars and other visiting fellows.
International leadership
Leadership of working groups on education for both the Public Health Genomics European Network (PHGEN) and for the Genome-based Research and Population Health International Network (GRaPHInt) .
Electronic resources
- We are producing a number of electronic learning resources, known as Reuseable Learning Objects (RLOs) in Public Health Genomics. This is a joint project with the University of Cambridge's Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies (CARET).
- Development of an electronic learning module on genetic testing using the RLOs.
Training placements for specialist registrars
As the PHGU we provided training placements for specialist registrars in public health and we will continue to do so in the future, helping to maintain our connections to the NHS.
