Sobia is a policy analyst specialising in data science at the PHG Foundation; she has also served as interim Head of Science. Her work includes examining and articulating to policy makers the challenges and opportunities that (human or pathogen) genomic data presents to health systems and their management of diseases. Before joining the PHG Foundation, Sobia was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, where her research interests focussed on systems-level analysis and modelling of innate immune signalling pathways. Sobia also gained her PhD at the University of Edinburgh. During this time she was awarded a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) science-policy fellowship for a secondment to the Scottish Parliament as a Research Specialist, to provide independent insight into a range of science and health related topics, including healthcare associated infections.
