Host genomics looks at genetic differences to help to explain how the host, such as a person, may respond differently to a pathogen which causes disease. It is a rapidly developing science which is complex and can vary by disease.
The impact of host genomics will also be affected by factors already known to play a role in health, such as transcriptomics, proteomics and immunogenomics. We are exploring how host genomics might be used to predict severe disease and inform acute care.
Host genomics: lessons for infectious diseases
Our work investigated the role of host genomics in tackling infectious diseases. We provided recommendations to policymakers and research funders regarding the opportunities and challenges for researchers developing precision-based strategies for managing infectious diseases.
